PROFESSIONAL MEDICAL CENTRE FOR MEN

What is VEDI?

The VEDI procedure is one of the most modern and advanced therapeutic methods used in the treatment of erectile dysfunction of organic and vascular origin.

In this method, the physicians use intravascular procedures to restore the patency of arteries supplying blood to the penis. Elimination of stenoses and restoration of patency  with the use of a specially designed balloon catheter reintroduces a natural blood flow and a normal function of the penis.

How Does VEDI Work?

The penis is composed of two longitudinal cavernous bodies, being a kind of chambers, and one spongy body, including the urethra. These are the cavernous bodies that increase their volume with inflowing blood, and are responsible for penis enlargement (erection). Blood is supplied to the penis by pudental arteries which branch off from the iliac arteries – being among the main arteries in the body. Pudental arteries pass into deep arteries of the penis, running longitudinally in the cavernous bodies and being mostly responsible for normal blood inflow and erection. Blood flows back from the penis with the dorsal vein. Arteries have a muscular layer, composed of smooth muscles which dilate and contract, regulating blood flow. This gives them elasticity and ability to adjust the flow to ensuing situation, so that more blood could flow to the penis during sexual arousal and during activation of the erection centre in the spinal cord.

Unfortunately, pudental arteries (as well as most of our vessels) become more rigid with age and undergo the process of atherosclerotic plaque formation, which leads to their narrowing and occlusion. Similar processes can be observed in men with diabetes, hypertension and other vascular diseases. It is frequent that these ailments coexist, increasing the disturbances of blood inflow to the penis. It has been proved that most of the cases of erectile dysfunction are of organic origin or the organic disease constitutes a significant factor in dysfunction development.

The VEDI procedure is one of the few therapeutic options which restores the patency and normal function of arteries, and thus – improves blood flow and perfusion of the penis. Intravascular restoration of patency of arteries supplying blood to the cavernous bodies substantially increases sexual performance in many cases or completely eliminates the problems with potency.
